Archive FAQ

Questions this archive should answer plainly.

A replacement for the former FAQ route, focused on provenance, status and safe use.

Is this the official Coccinella project website?

No. This is an independent historical archive. It is not operated by, affiliated with or endorsed by the original Coccinella developers.

Has Coccinella development restarted?

This archive has found no evidence that the original project has restarted. Distribution records are preserved, but package-maintenance dates should not be mistaken for upstream development.

Can I download Coccinella here?

No executable is hosted here. The download record links to independent package indexes for researchers and explains the security caveats.

What was the built-in whiteboard?

It was a synchronized drawing surface that could be opened with a direct contact or a Multi-User Chat room, allowing several participants to collaborate visually.

What is XMPP?

XMPP is an open, extensible messaging protocol. It supports independently operated servers and federation across domains. Coccinella was one client built around that network model.

Why preserve the old URLs?

Historic links from software directories, package systems and articles should land on content that remains relevant to their original subject. Core routes are mapped to new archive pages; old account and community functions are not imitated.

May I reuse the historical images?

Consult the original archive capture and its Creative Commons notice, then follow the applicable attribution and share-alike terms. This archive’s source page records where each image came from.
