People behind the project

Mats Bengtsson, 1959–2008

Mats Bengtsson founded and developed Coccinella. This restrained archival page restores the URL cited by the XMPP community and points readers back to the surviving memorial record.

Founder of Coccinella

The memorial published on the former project site identifies Mats Bengtsson as Coccinella's founder and driving force. It describes the program as an interactive communication project that he initiated, developed and released as open source so others could continue improving it.

Mats died on 29 November 2008. The XMPP Standards Foundation's February 2009 community roundup linked to this memorial and acknowledged his role as lead developer of the Coccinella XMPP client.

Theoretical physics and research

The original memorial, written by his partner Mari Lundberg, records that Mats studied engineering at Lund University, completed a doctorate in theoretical physics, spent a postdoctoral period in Aachen and worked at the Swedish Defence Research Agency in Linköping. This archive paraphrases only the details relevant to the surviving public record.
